* Keep in mind that these workshops can be tailored to the specific needs
of your project.
Performance Programs
Topics include concept development and connections to NYS Standards, pacing
and timing, effective use of audience volunteers (both students and teachers),
and development of supporting materials.
Integrated Arts Residencies
We will explore the development and execution of top-notch residency programs
that create a team-oriented atmosphere for artists, teachers, and students.
This workshop will share strategies for lesson plan development, involving
community members, residency outcomes/projects/products and long-term
planning that will result in multi-year support for artist residencies.
Overall Program Design/Development
Participants will learn the tools for designing effective, long term programs
with artists and schools. To ensure high quality experiences between students,
teachers, and artists, the program goals must be carefully integrated
from the funding sources to the artistic concepts/projects and the final
assessment. A sustainable residency project must have a network of support
among a wide variety of constituents. We will look at some strategies
for building this network of long term support.
Artistic Hospitality/An Introduction to Arts
Integration
This workshop explores successful relationships between
artists and school communities. In one sense, a visiting artist is guest
and the school representative is the host. Therefore, the artist must
know how to interact as a guest within the physical space and schedule
of his/her host community. This describes the planning and logistics phase
of the project. Once the artistic event begins, the roles change. Now
the artist is the host that invites the teachers and students (the guests)
into his/her "artistic space." During this phase of the project,
the artist must know how be a good host. This metaphor permeates all phases
of project development and execution. Participants in this workshop will
carry away effective strategies for implementing Artistic Hospitality
into their programs.
