Professional Development Workshops
Presented by Glenn McClure, Arts Integration
Specialist
*Keep in mind that these workshops can be tailored to the specific needs
of your project.
Arts Integration
This workshop explores the quickly growing field of Arts Integration.
Participants will gain the skills to write lesson plans that employ artistic
activities. Though no specific artistic experience is necessary, these
lessons should include the teachers artistic experience. This approach
toward classroom teaching offers multiple modalities for a wide range
of learning styles. This workshop includes an opening session that lays
the groundwork for creating lesson plans and then proceeds with small
group work that allows teachers to develop lessons. Several of these lessons
are presented to the group for assessment and critique.
The Artist Residency
The workshop explores the necessary skills involved in designing and implementing
an artist residency. A successful residency requires planning, curriculum
integration, ongoing assessment and adjustments, and precise communication
between teachers, students, artists, and community volunteers. We will
explore ways of choosing artists, developing culminating events, documentation,
and publicity.
Teaming in the Classroom
This workshop examines the process of team teaching. The collaborative
work of classroom teachers, arts and physical education teachers, artists,
community volunteers can animate you classroom lessons. Successful collaborations
require careful planning, precise communication, common goals, and trust.
We will share some of the skills that are needed to build successful collaborations.
